Unica 28 April to 10 May 2018

We have recently relocate to Dubai and will be here for two years. After one month plus of house hunting, school searching etc, we are more or less settled down. Weather is getting hot by the day and the air is very much drier than what we had in Singapore. Frequent moisturiser is something we need to get used to.

Moving from high rise flat to a double storey villa is something exciting for both parents and our cute little girl and boy. There is so much to explore and hide and seek has become their favourite pastimes.

With a garden, we now are able to place our slide and bicycle outside the house. Having a pet has been the kids dream and we previously had a goldfish which unfortunately left us after our house switch tripped during a thunderstorm in Singapore while we are in Taiwan.

We decided on a little chick, with the aim of getting some fresh lay eggs one day in our garden...

Daddy found out that there is a Bird and Animal Market in Sharjah, a town 40 mins drive away from Dubai so after breakfast on one weekend morning, we drove there to search for our chick.

There are many chicks, chicken, birds which includes pigeon, parrot and even owl. Besides that, kitten, guinea pig can also be found. Generally it was well maintained and not too smelly as I would have imagine. If you would like fresh chicken, there are a couple of shops that sells that too.

Daddy lay his eyes on this little one which has streaks of black feathers on its wing and a small black line on its head. Its cute and its female like what we wanted.

And that is when Unica join our family on 28 April 2018. Unica is short for unicorn and her name is given by our girl who has a pet unicorn soft toy with the same name.

At first, Unica was very caution and ran when she sees us, hiding behind the bushes most of the time. But after a while, she starts to become more friendly, often coming to our sliding door and hanging around the area.

Her first day with us
Look how gentle our boy is...
Couple of days after Unica arrived, a cat were spotted at our house and we quickly bring her inside the box.

Her temporary home for now...
Kids love playing with Unica and they let her out every evening for a walk. Unica would go to the sand and rumbling inside to clean herself. Thats her way to "shower".

Over time, we all are happy to hold Unica with our hands and she is also getting more used to us carrying her around.

And finally her cage arrived so she no longer need to stay in the box...and she can enjoy the nature more. When we first placed her into the cage, she quickly jumped out as it was an unfamiliar environment but after exploring and getting used to her house, she was happy to go in on subsequent occasions.

Exploring her cage
Some food for her- some grains and some store bought pet food.
However on one fateful evening when Unica is exploring the garden, we went for dinner for 30 minutes and we could not find her anyway..... probably still couldn't escape the clutch of a cat...

Everyone were sad and hoping to see Unica appear again one day but it has been more than a week and we did not see her anymore :(
