My mini guide to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Image
After my mini guide to Beijing, I am now sharing my mini tips to Ho Chi Minh. Again this is based on my personal experience after visiting Ho Chi Minh for the second time, 6 months apart. To be honest, even though it is only 6 months since I visited in December 2014, so much have change. I feel like the city is losing it's charm. I remember when I first visited in December 2014, the things I like most is how the city is different from most major cities in the world. Instead of having Starbucks, they have their local coffee joint (Trung Nguyen and Highland Coffee), they only have ONE McD in the city and most of the shops around are pretty localised, their traffic is congested and messy in a sense yet they have their way of getting around it. However, during my recent visits, Starbucks started to sprout in the city (huge big shops), a few McD, lots of newly opened French Bakery and a number of new foreign coffee shops. Slowly, I think the city will transform and probably ...

My mini guide to Beijing, China

Image
Having visited Beijing twice (once in March 2012 and another in May 2015), I concluded that Beijing is not very "young" children friendly. For parents who are thinking of bringing their young children to Beijing, I would advise " do think twice"! Why do I say that? Beijing is very historical and really a lot of nice building, built meticulously but I feel that young children especially those less than 8-10 years old, they are not able to appreciate the history and admire the architecture. Coupled with lots and lots of walking around the attractions, it is taxing to both parents and children, having to drag uninterested kids around, walking long distance. You could use stroller but not everywhere has lift, most MRT station you gotta to walk the stairs and even taxi is not easy to get... I saw many kids sleeping in the stroller under the shade, parents carrying the kids around while the kids sleeping and some kids just running about at Great Wall of China...

A day in Sekinchan, Selangor, Malaysia- First Paddy Field Experience!

Image
Sekinchan  is a small town located in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Once you spot the vast paddy field, you would know that you have reached the correct place. Sekinchan  is about an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur and during our recent rest and relax trip to Kuala Lumpur, we decided to bring the kiddos to learn "Where do our rice come from?".We are glad that we make the trip up to Sekinchan, both adults and kiddos learnt something new.  When is the best time to go? The best time to go will be either mid-May to June or mid-November to December as these are the harvesting period, thus the paddy field will be displaying a huge patch of yellow paddy and you can see the "rice" hanging from the plant as well! Paddy field starting to turn yellow Close up of paddy Loving the scenery! Take your time walking or cycling around the paddy field (free) and visit a rice factory. This is the one that we visited: PLS Rice Factory Entrance ...
